Supreme Court gives clearance to run the dance bars across the Maharashtra state. The apex court has stayed implementation of 2014 amendment of the Maharashtra Police Act that had banned dance bars in the state. Ban on dance bars imposed in 2005 by the then state Home Minister late RR Patil and it was continuing till now. Successive governments including the current BJP-Shivsena government lead by Devendra Fadnavis is also sticks to the ban till date. The dance bars and the dancers associations have been fighting to lift the ban ever since. Finally, today the Supreme Court lifts the decade long ban and gives clearance for running dance bars in the state.

Nationalist Congress party spokes person Nawab Malli alleged that Maharashtra government intentionally lets the apex court lift the ban because of collusion between ruling BJP-Shivsena leaders and dance bars owners. Congress spokesperson Anant Gadgil describes it as a failure of statement government in fighting the case in the right manner. Opposition parties demands the statement government to approach the Supreme Court again seeking reconsideration of its ruling given in favor of the dance bars.
