1st BJP CM of Assam sworn in

Sarbananda Sonowal, who resigned as Union Minister of State for Sports after his party's win in the recent Assembly elections in Assam, took oath on Tuesday evening as the Chief Minister of Assam. He has become the first BJP leader to hold the post. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Ministers of five other states, Union ministers and senior BJP leaders were present at the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony PM Modi said, "I want to thank the people of Assam who wanted development and gave a chance to Sonowal ji to serve them. Born in a tribal family, a fighter is now going to lead the people of Assam."
