MIM on Monday withdrew support to the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh accusing the ruling party of high handedness on temple renovation issue at Old City area in Hyderabad. The seven member MIM, which extends support to the government from outside, is angry over certain work being allowed to be taken up at the temple at Charminar. Its president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that "the state government has failed to protect secularism".
He also held Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy responsible for failing to maintain status quo at the temple as per High Court orders.
Although there is no immediate threat to the state government, the support of the MIM was important for political stability. Congress currently has 155 MLAs in the 294 member House though loyalty of some of its legislators is in doubt as they are believed to be close to YSR Congress led by Jaganmohan Reddy.
