VVS Laxman in conflict of interest controversy

Ever since the selection of Anil Kumble as the Indian Cricket coach took place, there seems to be no end to the controversies cropping up every second day. After the public spat between the former cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri about the unfair way in which the coach was selected, there seems to be a new issue of conflict of interest surrounding VVS Laxman who is one of the members who selected Kumble for the post. It has now emerged that   VVS Laxman, who was one of the three Cricket Advisory Committee members, is the second biggest shareholder in Kumble’s company Tenvic Sports Education Private Ltd.

These revelations raise serious questions on the selection of Kumble and Laxman’s role in the rejection of other candidates who had applied to be Team India’s coach, as there is a clear case of conflict of interest. As a shareholder he holds, 33,332 shares in Tenvic Sports. Laxman was also entitled to a substantial amount of money in the form of incentives, bonus and other benefits from Kumble’s firm. Deepika Padukone's father and Badminton legend Prakash Padukone is also a shareholder in the firm.
