కెనడాలో ఘనంగా తెలుగు ఉగాది సంబరాలు

కెనడాలోని ఎటోబికోలో ఉన్న డాంటే అలిఘేరి అకాడమీ ఆడిటోరియంలో గ్రేటర్ టొరంటో ఏరియాలోని తెలుగు సంఘం 'ఉగాది' తెలుగు నూతన సంవత్సరాన్ని ఆనందంగా జరుపుకుంది. టొరంటో, మార్కమ్, బ్రాంప్టన్, మిస్సిసాగా, ఓక్వల్, వాటర్ డౌన్, కిచెనర్, వాటర్లూ, కేంబ్రిడ్జ్, హామిల్టన్, మిల్టన్ మరియు ఇతర ప్రాంతాలతో సహా సమీప నగరాల నుండి వచ్చిన అనేక వందల తెలుగు కుటుంబాలు ఆరు గంటల పాటు సాగిన ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో పాల్గొన్నాయి. సంగీతం, నృత్యం, యూత్ ఫ్యాషన్ షో, వంట పోటీ మరియు అనేక ఇతర ఉత్తేజకరమైన ఈవెంట్లు ఘనంగా జరిగాయి. తెలుగు కల్చరల్ అసోసియేషన్ ఆఫ్ గ్రేటర్ టొరంటో (TCAGT)తో తమ అనుభవాలను పంచుకున్న స్పాన్సర్లు మరియు ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్ కమిటీ సభ్యులతో కూడిన వీడియో ప్రదర్శనతో ఈ ప్రక్రియ ప్రారంభమైంది. కుటుంబ-స్నేహపూర్వక వినోదం మరియు రుచికరమైన పండుగ వంటకాలను కలిగి ఉన్న ఈవెంట్ను విజయవంతంగా నిర్వహించడం పట్ల ప్రేక్షకులు సానుకూలంగా స్పందించారు. తెలుగు కల్చరల్ అసోసియేషన్ ఆఫ్ గ్రేటర్ టొరంటో (TCAGT) అతిథులు, సభ్యులు, కుటుంబాలు మరియు స్నేహితులు వారు వచ్చినప్పుడు వేదికను అలంకరించి న అందమైన రంగోలి రూపకల్పనతో స్వాగతం పలికారు. వేడుకలు కెనడియన్ జాతీయ గీతం ఆలపించడంతో ప్రారంభమయ్యాయి, ఆ తర్వాత TCAGT ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్ కమిటీ మరియు వారి జీవిత భాగస్వాములు వేడుకలో భాగంగా భారతీయ సంప్రదాయ దీపాన్ని వెలిగించి 'దీపారాధన' ఆచారాన్ని నిర్వహించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో తెలుగు సంఘం సెక్రటరీ ప్రవళిక కూన స్వాగతోపన్యాసం చేశారు. తన ప్రసంగంలో, ఆమె ఉగాది పండుగ యొక్క ప్రాముఖ్యతను నొక్కిచెప్పారు మరియు ఈ గొప్ప ఉత్సవాలు సాధ్యమయ్యేలా చేయడంలో వారి అమూల్యమైన సహాయం మరియు మద్దతు కోసం స్పాన్సర్లు మరియు వాలంటీర్లకు కృతజ్ఞతలు తెలిపారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో పండిట్ శ్రీ మంజునాథ్ సిద్ధాంతి పంచాగ శ్రవణం అందించగా, వివిధ ప్రదర్శనలు ప్రేక్షకులను అలరించాయి. వీటిలో ప్రియాంక పహారిచే శాస్త్రీయ నృత్యాలు, ధృతిచే భక్తిగీతం, యువత అందించిన యూత్ ఫ్యాషన్ షో మరియు వంటల పోటీ ఉన్నాయి. గిరిధర్ నాయక్ బృందం అన్ని వయసుల వారిని అలరించే ఆకట్టుకునే నృత్య కార్యక్రమాలను కూడా ప్రదర్శించింది. అదనంగా, ప్రేక్షకులు మౌనిమ, సందీప్ కూరపాటి మరియు షర్మిలా గణేష్ వంటి ప్రముఖ గాయకులతో కూడిన నాన్-స్టాప్ టాలీవుడ్ మ్యూజికల్ నైట్ను ఆస్వాదించారు. ఘనంగా సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయ స్నాతకోత్సవం

అమెరికాలోని  సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయ స్నాతకోత్సవం ఘనంగా జరిగింది. వీడియో కాన్ఫరెన్స్ ద్వారా నిర్వహించిన వేడుకల్లో  సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయ పాలకవర్గ మండలి, అధ్యాపకులు, విద్యార్థులు, దాతలు, శ్రేయోభిలాషులు పాల్గొన్నారు. కూచిపూడి నాట్యం, కర్ణాటక సంగీతం, భరత నాట్యం, సంస్కృతం కోర్సులలో భారతదేశం, ఉత్తర అమెరికా, దక్షిణ ఆఫ్రికా దేశాలనుండి మొత్తం 38 మంది విద్యార్థులు డిగ్రీ, డిప్లమో పట్టాలను పొందారు. కుటుంబ సభ్యులతో వర్చువల్ సదస్సులో పాల్గొని వారంతా ఆనందోత్సవాల్ని పంచుకొన్నారు.  2021 సంవత్సరంలో పట్టభద్రులవుతున్న విద్యార్థులను ఈ సందర్భంగా పాలకమండలి అభినందించింది.. Class of 2021 విద్యార్థులు  సాధించిన విజయాలను కీర్తిస్తూ..  విశ్వవిద్యాలయ అభివృద్ధికి అందించిన తోడ్పాటును ప్రశంసిస్తూ.. భవిష్యత్తులో వారు మరిన్ని అద్భుత విజయాలు సాధించాలని అభిలషించింది. స్నాతకోత్సవంలో ప్రసంగించిన విశ్వవిద్యాలయ అధ్యక్షుడు కూచిభొట్ల ఆనంద్ ..  విద్యార్థులు తాము సాధించిన  విజయాలను చూసి గర్వపడాలని చెప్పారు.  భారతదేశ సంస్కృతి ఎంతో పురాతనమైనదని.. క్రీస్తుపూర్వం, క్రీస్తుశకం తొలినాళ్లలోనే ప్రపంచ ప్రఖ్యాతినొందిన తక్షశిల, నలంద విశ్వవిద్యాలయాలు నెలకొన్నాయని తెలిపారు. ఎన్నో అడ్డంకులను, అవాంతరాలను ఎదుర్కొని 1916 సంవత్సరంలో బనారస్ హిందూ విశ్వవిద్యాలయాన్ని పండిత్ మదన్ మోహన్ మాలవీయ స్థాపించారని చెప్పారు కూచిభొట్ల. ఇలాంటి మహనీయులనుండి స్ఫూర్తి పొందుతూ, సమిష్టి కృషితో సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయాన్ని విద్యా కేంద్రంగా  తీర్చిదిద్దుకొందామన్నారు. భవిష్యత్తు మనదే అన్న బలమైన నమ్మకంతో ముందుకు సాగుదామని పిలుపిచ్చారు కూచిభొట్ల ఆనంద్.  అత్యంత విలువైన ప్రాచీన భారతీయ కళలు, సాహిత్యానికి ఆధునిక సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానాన్ని జోడిస్తూ ప్రతి ఒక్కరికి పారదర్శంగా అందించడంలో సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయం విజయం సాధించిందని ట్రస్టీస్ బోర్డ్ చైర్మన్ డా. పప్పు వేణుగోపాల్ అన్నారు. స్నాతకోత్సవ ఉపన్యాసకుడు, యునైటెడ్ నేషన్స్ భారత రాయబారి, T.S తిరుమూర్తి విశ్వవిద్యాలయ పత్రిక  'శాస్త్ర' ను ఆవిష్కరించారు. పట్టభద్రులను అభినందిస్తూ ఆయన సందేశమిచ్చారు. సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయ పట్టభద్రులుగా బయట ప్రపంచంలో అడుగిడుతున్న విద్యార్థులు.. భారతదేశపు చింతన, సంస్కృతి, సంప్రదాయ రాయబారులుగా ప్రాతినిధ్యం వహిస్తారని చెప్పారు. జ్ఞాన సముపార్జన, ఆత్మబోధనయే కేంద్రమైన భారతీయ సంస్కృతి మిగిలిన సంస్కృతులకంటే విభిన్నమైనదని తెలిపారు. భారతదేశపు విలువలకు అంతర్జాతీయ వేదికపై తగిన గుర్తింపు తేవడానికి గత కొన్ని సంవత్సరాలుగా ఎంతో కృషి జరుగుతున్నదని T.S తిరుమూర్తి కొనియాడారు.    గడిచిన నాలుగేళ్లలో ఎన్నో మార్పులు జరిగినా.. తమ  తపన మాత్రం చెక్కుచెదరలేదన్నారు విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ప్రొవోస్ట్ చమర్తి రాజు. 2020 సంత్సరంలో సిలికానాంధ్ర విశ్వవిద్యాలయానికి ప్రాతినిధ్యం (Candidacy)లభించిందన్నారు. త్వరలో గుర్తింపు హోదా (Accreditation) కూడా లభిస్తుందని ఆయన ఆశావహం వ్యక్తం చేశారు. విద్యార్థులకు వేతనం (Scholarships) ఇచ్చే దిశగా విశ్వవిద్యాలయం ప్రణాళికను రూపొందిస్తుందని చెప్పారు చీఫ్ ఫైనాన్షియల్ ఆఫీసర్ కొండుభట్ల దీనబాబు. మీరందరు మీ మాతృవిద్యా సంస్థతో సంబంధాలు కొనసాగించాలని విద్యార్థులకు ఆయన సందేశమిచ్చారు. విశ్వవిద్యాలయ సామాజిక సంబంధాల సలహాదారుడు కొండిపర్తి దిలీప్ విద్యార్థులను అభినందిస్తూ వారు భవిష్యత్తులో ఎన్నో విజయాలను సాధించాలని ఆశించారు.      మారేపల్లి వెంకటశాస్త్రి గారి వేదప్రవచనంతో ప్రారంభమైన సదస్సులో చమర్తి జాహ్నవి అమెరికా జాతీయ గీతం ఆలపించింది. విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ఆచార్యులు, విద్యార్థుల సహకారంతో Dr. T.K సరోజ స్వరపరిచిన స్నాతకోత్సవ గీతం ప్రత్యేక ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచింది.

  న్యూ జెర్సీ NRI TDP నిర్వహించిన AP CM తో మీట్ & గ్రీట్ సమావేశానికి, ప్రత్యేక ఆహ్వానితులుగా విచ్చేసిన స్థానిక సాయి దత్త పీఠం ( షిరిడీ ఇన్ అమెరికా) బృందం, చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు ను దుశ్శాలువాతో సత్కరించి, పూలమాలాలంకృతులను చేసి బాబా చిత్రపటాన్ని అందించారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా, సాయి దత్త పీఠం చైర్మన్ రఘుశర్మ శంకరమంచి మరలా మీరే ముఖ్యమంత్రి గా రావాలని తన వ్యక్తిగత అభిప్రాయాన్ని తెలియచేసారు. 25 ఎకరాలలో నిర్మించ తలబెట్టిన షిరిడీ ఇన్ అమెరికా కు బాబు తన అభినందనలు, శుభాకాంక్షలు తెలియచేసారు.  CM ను కలిసే అవకాశం కల్పించిన నిర్వాహకులకు, ప్రత్యేకంగా మన్నవ మోహనకృష్ణ కు, కలపటపు బుచ్చి రామ్ ప్రసాద్, వెనిగళ్ల వంశీ కృష్ణ లకు రఘుశర్మ మరియు బృందం అభినందనలు తెలియచేసారు.      

అమెరికాలో తెలుగు హోర్డింగ్స్‌..!

అమెరికాలో తెలుగు భాష అభివృద్ధికి ఎనలేని కృషి చేస్తున్న సంస్థ సిలికానాంధ్ర. ఇప్పటి వరకు 6000 మందికి పైగా విద్యార్థులకు తెలుగు నేర్పిస్తున్న ఘనత సిలికానాంధ్ర సొంతం. తెలుగు విశ్వవిద్యాలయం గుర్తింపు పొందిన మనబడి వార్షిక పరీక్షలు మరికొద్ది రోజుల్లో ప్రారంభం కానున్నాయి. అలాగే 2016-17 విద్యా సంవత్సరం మనబడి తరగతులు ప్రారంభం కానున్నాయి. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో మనబడి ప్రచార కార్యక్రమాలు మొదలెట్టింది. దీనిలో భాగంగా న్యూజెర్సీ-న్యూయార్క్ ప్రధాన రహదారిపై ఏర్పాటు చేసిన 60 అడుగుల హోర్డింగ్ ఆకట్టుకుంటోంది. తెలుగుతనం ఉట్టిపడే బాపు బుడుగు, సీగాన పెసూనాంబల బొమ్మలు ముచ్చటగొలుపుతున్నాయని పలువురు తెలుగువారు అంటున్నారు. ప్రతీ రోజూ వేలాది వాహనాలు తిరిగే ఈ రహదారి న్యూయార్క్ విమానాశ్రయానికి అతి దగ్గరగా ఉండటం, అత్యంత భారీ సంఖ్యలో భారతీయులు ప్రయాణం చేసే మార్గం అవడం వల్ల-ఈ హోర్డింగ్ ఏర్పాటు చేశామని మనబడి ఉపాధ్యక్షులు శరత్ వేట తెలిపారు.

బ్లూమింగ్‌టన్ తెలుగు అసోసియేషన్ సేవానిరతి

  అమెరికాలోని బ్లూమింగ్‌టన్ తెలుగు అసోసియేషన్ తన సేవా నిరతిని చాటుకుంటోంది. ఇద్దరు చిన్నారుల అరుదైన వ్యాధికి శస్త్రచికిత్స కోసం డిసెంబర్ 20వ తేదీన బ్లూమింగ్‌టన్‌లోని వైడబ్ల్యుసీఎలో ‘బ్రేక్‌ఫాస్ట్ సేల్’ కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహిస్తోంది. తమరా సెన్సర్ అనే వ్యక్తి ఇద్దరు కుమారులు మసోన్, ఆస్టిన్‌ అవయవ మార్పిడి చేయాల్సిన వ్యాధిని ఎదుర్కొంటున్నారు. అరుదైన ఈ వ్యాధికి శస్త్ర చికిత్స చేయాల్సిన అవసరం వుంది. దీని కోసం బ్లూమింగ్టన్ తెలుగు అసోసియేషన్ విరాళాల సేకరణ కార్యక్రమం నిర్వహిస్తోంది. డిసెంబర్ 20వ తేదీన ఉదయం 9 గంటల నుంచి మధ్యాహ్నం 12 గంటల వరకు ‘బ్రేక్‌ఫాస్ట్ సేల్’ కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహించనున్నారు. బ్లూమింగ్టన్ తెలుగు అసోసియేషన్, చిల్డ్రన్ ఆర్గాన్ ట్రాన్స్‌ప్లాంట్ ఆర్గనైజేషన్ సంయుక్తంగా ఈ కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహిస్తున్నాయి.

  ప్రస్తుత విద్యాసంవత్సరంలో సిలికానాంధ్ర మనబడిలో 3000 మంది పిల్లలు చక్కగాతెలుగు వ్రాయటం, చదవటం, మాట్లాడటం నేర్చుకున్నారు. మరింతమంది రేపటి తరం పిల్లలకి ప్రణాళికాబద్ధంగా తెలుగు నేర్పించాలని చేసే ప్రయత్నమే సిలికానాంధ్ర మనబడి ప్రభంజనం 2014. సిలికానాంధ్ర మనబడి ప్రభంజనంలో భాగంగా , వచ్చే విద్యాసంవత్సరంలో 5000 మంది పిల్లలకి తెలుగు నేర్పించాలని లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకుంది. అమెరికా దేశమంతటా వందలాదిమంది తెలుగు భాషా ప్రేమికులు స్వచ్చందంగా మనబడి ప్రభంజనం ప్రచారంలో పాల్గొంటున్నారు. ప్రయోగాలకి పుట్టినిల్లయిన సిలికానాంధ్ర మనబడి ప్రచార చిత్రం ఒకటి రూప కల్పన చేసింది. తెలుగు భాషాభిమానాన్ని పెంచడానికి చరిత్రలో తొలిసారిగా ఆకాశంలొ 15000 అడుగుల ఎత్తులో ఒక ప్రచారచిత్రం చిత్రీకరణ చేయటం జరిగింది. సిలికానాంధ్ర వ్యవస్థాపక అధ్యక్షులు ఆనంద్ కూచిభొట్ల ఇందులో స్వయంగా పాల్గొనడం విశేషం. మనబడి ద్వారా తెలుగు నేర్పించే కార్యక్రమానికి ప్రాచుర్యం కల్పించడానికి ఈ ప్రచార చిత్రం ఉపయోగించబడుతుంది. ప్రముఖ గీత రచయిత శ్రీ సిరివెన్నెల శాన్ హోసె నగరంలొ ఈ ప్రచార చిత్రాన్ని విడుదల చేసారు. ఆ సందర్భంగా సిరివెన్నెల మాట్లాడుతూ ‘‘మనబడిలొ తెలుగు నేర్పే విధానానికి మరేది సాటి రాదు. ఇన్ని వందలమంది ఉపాధ్యాయులు ఇలా అంకితభావంతో ఇన్ని వేలమంది పిల్లలకి తెలుగు నేర్పడం ఈ భూతలం మీద ఒక్క మనబడిలోనే చూశాను’’ అని అన్నారు. మనబడి కులపతి రాజు చమర్తి మాట్లాడుతూ ‘‘మనబడిలో పిల్లల్ని చేర్పించడానికి అంతర్జాలంలో పేర్లు నమోదు చేసుకొవచ్చు. సెప్టెంబర్ 6 నుంచి తరగతులు ప్రారంభమవుతాయి’’ అని చెప్పారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో సిలికానాంధ్ర కుటుంబ సభ్యులు ఆనంద్ కూచిభొట్ల , దిలీప్ కొండిపర్తి , దీన బబు కొండుభట్ల, నల్లమోతు ప్రసాద్ , శ్రీరాం కొట్ని , మహమ్మద్ ఇక్బాల్ , వెంకట్ కొండ తదితరులు పాల్గొన్నారు.  

YSR Vardhanthi Observed in Detroit, USA

The great Telugu leader and visionary, late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s vardhanthi was observed on September 7th, 2012 in Farmington, MI. The attendees paid homage by lighting jyothi and offering floral tributes to Dr. YSR followed by a moment of silence. YSR Congress Party supporters in Detroit who gathered at the ceremony remembered the golden regime of their beloved leader Dr YSR and recalled the popular welfare and developmental programs introduced by him.They recalled the activities that were organized by the YSR Congress Party in the past one year to fight for the welfare of the people. They reiterated that YSR Congress Party belongs to the people of Andhra Pradesh and it is established to fulfill the welfare schemes for poor and to complete the popular long term projects set by their beloved leader Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy. NRI's prepare for Lok Satta Party Internal Elections

A decision to participate in Lok Satta party internal elections is taken by its overseas supporters. People For LokSatta, a political non profit based in USA, organized a global conference call to promote internal elections of LSP Andhra Pradesh state unit. Prasanna Meda, from Bay Area, lauded Lok Satta party for standing for real internal democracy and also for becoming the first party to give voting rights to NRIs. Raghava Solipuram, from Houston, explained the benefits of membership and emphasized the importance of membership for electing strong leaders. Setting its eyes on 2014 elections, Lok satta party decided to start with internal elections and kicked off state wide membership drive last month. NRIs from bay area, Chicago, Houston, New Jersey, Washington and other places participated and aimed to enroll one lakh voters in Andhra Pradesh including 2000 NRI voters. Attendees also appreciated three successful NRIs, Hyma Sagi, Dilip Sankarreddy and Padma Bhupatiraju, who returned to India to work for Lok Satta party.

Dallas Area Telanganites Celebrate Telangana Banquet & Cultural Night

Dallas Area Telangana Association (DATA) hosted Telangana Cultural and Banquet Night on Saturday, September 15th at Colleyville Center, Colleyville TX on a grand note, with over 600 Dallas area NRIs attending the event. Colleyville center was decorated for the night with Telangana backdrop all over the center and main attraction being photo exhibition of Telangana’s ten district unique culture. Banquet started with Mohan Padigala welcoming the hall filled gathering and then inviting Mr. Sridhar Reddy, former AP sports council president, a staunch Telangana supporter on to the stage. Speaking on the occasion. Mr. Sridhar Reddy conveyed the importance of celebrating Sep17th as ‘Telangana Vimochan Dinotsavam’ to the attendees and said, he is honored to be with Dallas area Telanganites for the occasion. Telugu Community welcomes Hon CGI Parvathaneni Harish Telugu community gathered to welcome Hon. Parvathaneni Harish, the newly appointed Consul General of India at Pasand Irving Restaurant on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Prasad Thotakura, TANA President introduced Hon. CGI Harish to the gathering as he is the first of person of Telugu origin to assume this highest position in US consulate history. Hon. CGI Harish joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1990, he has learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo and passed the examination with distinction. He has served in Indian Mission in Cairo and Riyadh and headed the post as Indian Representative to the Palestinian Authority stationed in Gaza city. He thereafter worked in the East Asia and External Affairs. He also worked as the Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Hon'ble Vice President of India Mr. Hamid Ansari. Hon. Harish grew up in Vijayawada, attended NSM Public School, Layola College and graduated from Osmania University, Hyderabad with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Prasad Thotakura and Dr. S. Raghavendra Prasad, former TANA President felicitated Hon. CGI Harish with a shawl, Manju Kanneganti, TANA SW Regional Representative presented a bouquet of flowers. NATS initiates “Adopt a Temple” program.

NATS initiates “Adopt a Temple” program. Sri C. Ramachandraiah garu applauded NATS efforts in supporting the efforts of Global Hindu Heritage Foundation (GHHF) in protecting, preserving and promoting our centuries old Indian culture and heritage. NATS Vice Chairman Dr. Madhu Korrapati, GHHF founder Dr. V.V. Prakasa Rao and Hon. Minister of Endowments Sri C. Ramachandraiah garu signed a MOU and pledged support to the cause in a ceremony conducted at Ohry’s Indian restaurant in Irving, TX. Kalaratna Dr. Ghazal Srinvias presided over the meeting and elaborated on the importance of temples in our daily lives. President of NATS, Ravi Madala and chairman board of trustees Ranakumar Nadella said in a statement that as part of this MOU, for every dollar raised through this “Adopt a Temple” program the Govt. of AP will match another dollar.   An online donation webpage was also launched on NATS website (www.natsworld.org) with a link to “SaveTemples.org”. Members of NATS and NRIs at large will have the opportunity to “Adopt a Temple” from their village/town/city through this online donation facility. Dignitaries from GHHF, Sri Yalamanchi Prasad and Ravi Pattisam were also present. The meeting also was graced by the local Tantex EC members, NATS board of directors; Srinivas Bhavireddy, Vijay Velamuru, Srinvas Koneru and Secretary Ramakrishna Koganti have participated actively. Rajesh Chilukuri commenced the program with a prayer song by Aparna Velamuri and vote of thanks proposed by Jyothi Vanam and a musical performance by Jaya Kalyani and Gopi Peturi, and Desi plaza TV provided media support for the event. Bapu Nuthi, Krishna Korada, Sridhar Kodela, Adi Gelli and many other NATS North Texas team members contributed extensively in putting this ceremony together.   Dr. Madhu Korrapati pledged $1000 donation on-site and was followed by another $1000 pledge by Rao Tiledevara and Krishna Athota pledged $2000 for a temple in his village in Prakasam dist. NATS, a service oriented organization believes that temples are one of the pillars of our upbringing and play a significant role in our lives. We should make every effort to improve and preserve our temples which in turn will sustain our rich heritage and culture of mother land India. Regardless of the religious beliefs temples still serve as refuge for the poor and needy by offering food and shelter in distress. Dr. Ghazal Srinivas also spoke about NATS biennial conference “America Telugu Sambaralu” to be held in Dallas at the Irving Convention center from July 4th – 6th 2013 and requested all attendees to support NATS’s activities.

Maryland's First Lady Impressed by Talented NGO Kids

As part of a delegation from the US state, Catherine O’Malley, wife of Maryland's Governor Martin O'Malley visited the NGO Sphoorti Foundation in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The kids at the Foundation welcomed the first lady of Maryland with a bunch of roses and smiling faces. The delegation from the US state is here to sign 'Sister State' agreement between Andhra Pradesh and Maryland. The first lady, who has worked as a prosecutor, has been a strong advocate for rights of victims of domestic violence and child abuse. She was instrumental in successfully passing legislation to remove firearms from hands of domestic abusers in Maryland. Led by the children at the Hyderabad-based NGO, she visited their hostel rooms, classrooms for kindergarten kids, library, computer lab, music room and others. The delighted children also performed some dances on film songs to welcome the first lady. The first lady, Catherine O’Malley was gifted with some art and painting works made by the children. After interacting with the children, she patiently answered their queries regarding governance and about geography and aesthetics of Maryland. Thoroughly amazed by enthusiasm and talent of the kids she said, "I am enthralled with your dances. You guys are highly talented, smart and disciplined." "I am amazed by the way they looked into my eyes while speaking," she told. She also had praise for teachers and mentors working with the children. The Sphoorti Foundation works for rehabilitation of children belonging to underprivileged sections including those abandoned and orphaned. The NGO currently houses 145 children including 65 girls and 80 boys in the age group of 4 to 14, in addition to sponsoring education for another 25 children from nearby poor families, according to Srivyal Vuyyuri, coordinator, Sphoorti Foundation. "Sphoorti provides basic amenities like food, shelter, clothing, education, healthcare and recreation facilities. All children attend English medium school in the locality," he said. The NGO also runs three children's homes for kids below six years and two different homes for boys and girls in age group of 7 to 14.

In a scenic ranch setting in North Dallas, more than two hundred Telugu families gathered to felicitate President elect Mr. Prasad Thotakura, Mr. Ram Yalamanchili and Smt.Manjulatha Kanneganti. Four NRI Students Died in Car Crash

American Telugu Association (ATA) expresses its deep condolences for the tragic demise of four Indian origin students in a car crash in Missouri, USA. ATA came to know that four students of Indian origin died and another student (Murali Bittu) is in critical condition in a tragic multi car crash in Missouri, USA. ATA expressed deep condolences to the family members of Srupen Reddy, Sriharsh Chitturi, Dheeraj Gudlawar, and Srikanth Ravi Iyer who were killed in the tragic accident. ATA president, Rajender Jinna contacted the family members of Srupen Reddy and guided them on how to approach the authorities and provided them with proper contact information. Prestigious Ellis Island Medal For Babu Mandava

Currently, Sri Babu Rao is the founder and CEO of Indotronix International Corporation (IIC), and resides in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Sri Babu Rao has always had a strong commitment to higher education. He attended High School in Movva, and secondary education at Hindu College in Machilipatnam. Subsequently he completed an Engineering degree at BMS college of Engineering in Bangalore and worked at the Nagarjuna Sagar Project as a Junior Engineer. Later he worked in Tata Iron and steel company in Jamshedpur. In 1964, he migrated to the United States of America, where he completed his Masters in Industrial Engineering at NYU. During this time he was admitted to several honor societies and is currently life member of IEEE.  Throughout the next 20 years, while working at IBM, he also completed a second Masters in Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont, also graduating with high honors. After working nineteen years with IBM in management, he took an early retirement and cofounded an IT company, Indotronix International Corporation (IIC). As president and CEO, Babu Mandava, in the past 24 years, has provided employment to thousands of people, among these, many Indian immigrants. IIC, with over 800 employees, works closely with several Fortune 500 companies in the USA, and has a major presence in both USA and India. Despite this dedication to his professional career, Babu Rao's top priority is his family and community service. He has been married to Smt Vidyadhari for 59 years and blessed with five children. He has 7 siblings, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His family members are spread throughout the USA and remain very close to him. Throughout his lifetime Babu Rao Mandava has been actively involved with several philanthropic projects both in the US and India.   He has been a major donor to the Movva Venu Gopalaswamy temple in Movva and the Hindu Samaj and Temple in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Village of Movva has 2 concrete roads, a junior college, a town hall, a library, and a shopping complex which were made possible by donations from Sri. Mandava Babu Rao. In addition to his hard work and success, he also donates generously to various social service organizations and continues to contribute to the community. ATA Lauds India's World Cup Victory

ATA Empowered Dallas Telugu Community with a WILL & ESTATE Planning Seminar

Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX,March 26, 2011: “Do I still need a Will even though I don’t have a lot of money?” is the theme of the afternoon gathered at the Ruchi Palace Indian Cuisine, Carrollton TX as a part of the Will & Estate Seminar hosted by the American Telugu Association (ATA) on March 26, 2011. This seminar is co-hosted by the local Telugu Association of North Texas (TANTEX. Mr. Arvind Reddy Muppidi, DFW Regional Coordinator, ATA, extended a warm welcome to large attendees in spite of a busy weekend with various other events in town. Mr. Muppidi gave a brief overview of the objectives of the ATA in general and the business services in particular and reminded the audience of the key upcoming events. The objective of such a seminar is to provide the community with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the „Will & Estate Planning”, one of the most important topics for all the families. Mr. NMS Reddy, President, TANTEX, thanked ATA for their commitment for community service and reiterated TANTEX commitment to serve the growing and diverse needs of the Telugu community in the North Texas area & provided an update on various activities planned for the upcoming Silver Jubilee celebrations in July.
