Paritala Ravindra, more popularly known as Paritala Ravi was a political leader and factionist in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. He was killed by his rivals on 24 January 2005. He was a former cabinet minister during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regime and a TDP sitting MLA when he was slain by his political rivals in 2005. He was elected five times as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Penukonda constituency in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. He produced a film, Sri Ramulayya, based on the biography of his father.   Paritala Ravindra was born into to Sri Ramulu and Narayanamma couple in Venkatapuram, Anantapur district. His father, Paritala Sreeramulu, was a Naxalite leader close to People's War Group supremo Kondapalli Seetharamaiah. That was until G Narayana Reddy, a factionist and Congress MLA, and Sane Chenna Reddy, another factionist who later became a Congress MLA, had Sreeramulu killed in 1975. Ravi was 17 years when his father was killed. Ravi and his brother Paritala Hari escaped that attack.     Paritala Ravi too started as a Naxalite in the footsteps of his father Sriramulayya who donated his lands to poor people and later entered electoral politics by joining the Telugu Desam Party. After his brother Hari too was killed in 1982, Ravi wanted to take shelter to protect himself from his rivals. He went to his maternal uncle, Kondaiah, in Seerpi Kottaala village of Uravakonda constituency to take shelter. He married his uncle's daughter Suneetha in 1986 and took up cultivation. Later, Ravi wanted to take revenge for his father's and brother's deaths. He joined hands with communists (Naxalites). Ravi was one of the prime accused for the murder of Gangula Narayana Reddy, Narsanna, Yaadi Reddy. After Narayana Reddy was killed, Ramachandra Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party became MLA from Penukonda in 1983 and 1985. In the 1989 elections, the Congress formed the government in the state. Sane Chenna Reddy became MLA of Penukonda by defeating Ramachandra Reddy of the TDP. People's War Group (P.W.G) expelled Kondapalli Seetharamaiah from the party. He split P.W.G into two. One was P.W.K.S group. Potula Suresh who shot Chenna Reddy was an active member of this group. This group again split into two. One was "Redstar" and other was "Re-Organising committee" (ROC). Potula Suresh was head of ROC and Sudarshan was head of the Redstar. Redstar was favourable to Chenna Reddy's sons and Surya Narayana Reddy. ROC worked for Ravi. There was armed struggle between these two groups and many people were killed as a result of this conflict. Sane Chenna Reddy, who was conspirator in Ravi's father and brother's deaths was killed in kannumukkala village in 1991. By-elections were conducted and Ramana Reddy, son of Chenna Reddy, became MLA in 1991. With the help of a colleague, he found granite in his field. This was the turning point in his life. Chenna Reddy became rich after this project and eventually the events led to the killing of Paritala Ravi in 2005. The criminal element in politics of Andhra Pradesh was in full view on January 24, 2005. when hired killers hurl bombs near party office and gunned down the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator Paritala Ravindra. The brutality of the murder, in broad daylight was sensational. According to media all this assassination was planned in Anathapuram jail and major ruling party leaders assisted in executing this. As per media at least 12 attempts are made to assassinate Paritala Ravindra in a span of 10 years which he survived. After his death, his widow Paritala Sunitha became M.L.A from his assembly constituency Penukonda. Film director Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra movie released in 2010, is based on Paritala Ravi and Maddelacheruvu Suri's life.

Wikipedia Disappears Today Protesting Online Piracy Act

wikipedia Stop Online Piracy act (SOPA): Wikipedia, one of the world’s busiest websites, Wikipedia is staging a public protest today to garner support for its opposition to the anti-piracy measures proposed in the United States Congress. The site will be offline from 06:00 CET, the first time it has taken such action.   Wikipedia will be joined by other social news websites Reddit and Boing Boing but not by the likes of Facebook, Google and Twitter, who oppose the proposed laws but declined to black out. Twitter boss Dick Costolo said in a Tweet: “Closing a global business in reaction to single-issue national politics is foolish”. In a later Twitter exchange with Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, Costolo confirmed that he was only referring to Twitter in his previous post and was not judging Wikipedia’s decision. The giants of Silicon Valley are trying to stop the passage of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA), both of which are currently being examined by law-makers in Washington. According to supporters of the legislation, the acts are designed to prevent intellectual property – such as films and music – that comes out of the US being illegally pirated overseas. Under SOPA and PIPA, sites suspected of internet piracy could be shut down and it would become illegal for advertisers or internet providers to do business with them. Wikipedia and other SOPA critics argue that the laws are too far-reaching, violate the right to free speech and threaten the future of the internet industry. Wikipedia argues on its own site that the proposed laws would “seriously damage the free and open Internet.” The White House appears to be listening to the protests of Wikipedia. Administration officials said in a statement: “While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.”

Jarawa Tribe Extinction: Scientist Didn't Get Permission

Lately, the Jarawa tribe of Andaman islands is making headlines for two things. One is that, the jarawa tribe women are being exploited to entertain foreign touristsand the other one is that jarawa tribe is itself is very close to extinction. These factors have upset eminent scientist and Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi vice-chancellor Dr Lalji Singh. For several years now, Lalji Singh, who was director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad, had been trying to get permission from authorities for collecting blood samples of the Jarawas so that the tribe can be saved from extinction. "We wanted to get access to the Jarawas so that we could do something to preserve the tribe, which now has a population of less than 200. Forget permission, we did not even get response to our letters to the Union ministry of science and technology," Lalji Singh said. What Lalji Singh wants to do is collect the DNA samples of the tribe from the Andamans and preserve them for posterity. However, the samples must be brought to the laboratory within 24 hours for the preservation process to begin. For this, Lalji Singh even made arrangements at the CCMB laboratory in Hyderabad. He even tried to set up a laboratory at the Andamans itself with the help of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) so that the risk of transporting their DNA samples all the way to Hyderabad can be avoided. However, the laboratory could not be set up due to infrastructure problems, particularly uninterrupted power supply. It may be mentioned here that Lalji Singh and his team, through their research, had found that the human population spread from Africa to other parts of the world. The tribes in the Andamans - the Sentinelese and Onges - are believed to have found their way to the Andamans from Africa ages ago. In recent days, the spotlight has been on the Jarawa tribes following revelations that the tribal women were being made to dance semi-naked for the pleasure of foreign tourists. Lalji Singh said permissions from various ministries including the environment ministry, ministry for tribal welfare and the administration of the Andaman and Nicobar islands is necessary to collect blood samples or buccal swabs from the Jarawas. Once the samples are taken, scientists will immortalize their cell lines, so that the tribe can be preserved as they face the risk of extinction. Lalji Singh said he would once again approach the authorities for the required permissions.     Video Source:islandwarrior16
