Telangana activists tried to disrupt an exhibition-cum-workshop conducted by the Vishalandhra Mahasabha at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad on Thursday.
The Visalandha Mahasabha is an organisation that is spearheading the movement to keep Andhra Pradesh united. It has organized an exhibition cum workshop on December 29 at Sundarayya Vignana Kedram in support of its line of reasoning.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahasabha spokesperson Parakala Prabhakar said they had been trying to hold the meeting since July but were unable to do so far due to obstacles being created from various quarters. They were denied the opportunity to convene the meet in November at the eleventh hour when the government had cancelled the venue (Jubilee Hall) hired by them due to pressure from some quarters
The Mahasabha displayed in the exihibition around 100 charts showing statistics to expose the hollowness of the demand for division of the State along with a number of photographs showing acts of violence that took place during Telangana agitation. Fearing that T-protoganists may try to disrupt the event, the state government has arranged for ample police bandobust, but some some T-activists sneaked in to the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram. They objected to holding of a mahasabha in support of united andhra pradesh in Hyderabad, where a separatist movement is going on for decades. The organizers of the exihibition argued that Hyderabad is no one's 'jagir' and they have every right to express their views on the contentitious T-issue.
According to the reports received so far, tension prevailed in the area and police were finding it difficult to calm down the groups.
