GVK vs Venkatarami Reddy at Rajya Sabha

The Congress high command is witnessing a piquant situation in choosing GVK or Venkattrami Reddy in the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh this month. While Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is strongly lobbying for industrialist and hotelier G V Krishna Reddy, a majority of the MPs from the state are pitching in for media tycoon T Venkattrami Reddy of Deccan Chronicle group.
The Chief Minister is of the view that elevating GVK to Rajya Sabha would give a boost to the industrial climate in the state, his opponents point out that GVK’s close relative (Viyyankudu) T Subbarami Reddy is already a Rajya Sabha member and so, it would not be appropriate to give the RS ticket to GVK.
Interestingly, TVR is also a nephew of TSR and hence, the same logic applies to him. However, party seniors say it is always better to have a media baron as the Rajya Sabha member at a time when the Congress party position is pretty bad in the state. Moreover, TVR had been denied the RS ticket several times in the past, despite his loyalty to the Congress party.
