Providing two bed room houses to every poor family is one of the many elections promises made by the TRS Chief KCR. He reiterated his promise even till recent past. However, Indrakaran Reddy, minister for housing has stated that conditions apply to the free housing scheme.
He said “We have estimated that it will cost Rs.4.5 lakh for constructing a two-bed room house in 490 square feet area. Keeping in view of financial constraints, government will pay Rs.3.5 lakhs and the beneficiaries have to pay Rs.1lakh only.”
Earlier, the Congress government was used to provide ‘Indiramma Illu’ to the poor people in urban and rural areas also. Under this scheme, government provides Rs 45,000 to Rs 70,000 in rural areas and from Rs 55,000 to Rs 80,000 in urban areas for the poor people in the upper casts and backward classes and Rs.1.2 lakh in urban and rural areas to the poor people in the SC and ST categories.
Then, KCR has asked how the Congress government expects a four or five member family to live in a small single bed room flats? So, he offered to provide two-bed room houses to all the poor people in the state totally at free of cost. But, now he seems has realized that his promise is costlier than his crop loans waiver promise. So, his government is now trying to reduce the financial burden by transferring part of it on to the poor people.
Now, it is Congress party’s turn to ask him how his government is expecting the poor people to pay Rs.1 lakh and why is putting such conditions when he promised to offer them at free of cost. TDP leader Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy and former minister DK Aruna opine that CM KCR is trying to escape from one by one of all his elections promises. They said there is no surprise if the Telangana government links this scheme to Aadhar or some other system to narrow down the beneficiaries.
