Karimnagar(AP): Following clashes between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and pro-Telangana workers, ahead of TDP''s ''Telangana Ranabheri'' (public meeting) to be held today, security in the Karimnagar town has been beefed up.
Pro-Telangana activists set on fire the TDP festoons and flags yesterday morning leading to a clash and tension for some time. The TDP workers had put up posters and party flags across at the major junctions in the town ahead of the TDP Ranabheri.
According to police, the Telangana workers opposed the TDP meeting in the town saying the party had no moral ground to hold a meeting as the TDP supremo was against the separate Telangana statehood. Following the incident, some of the pro-Telangana activists were taken into the custody, they said.
The TDP was trying to mobilise crowd for the ''Ranabheri'' meeting. On the other hand, the TRS leaders have issued warnings to them against the meeting. TRS leaders made it clear that they will not allow a meeting, as the TDP chief has no clarity on Telangana issue.
Police have put up a strict vigil around the Circus ground, where the meeting is scheduled to be held today evening.
