Supreme Court has asked BCCI President N. Srinivasan to step down from his post immediately or else it warned him that it will be compelled to issue orders for his removal. He was asked to quit in connection with spot-fixing charges leveid against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan.
Though, Srinivasan is reluctant to quit his post, a day after consultations with legal experts, he agreed to quit. Then, Supreme Court has asked the Government to appoint veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar in his place. Sunil Gavaskar, who is overwhelmed with apex court’s proposal said that being opening bats’ man, he is ready to take charge as President of BCCI, if court orders him to do so. If he could succeed Srinivasan, it would be a new beginning for BCCI as Gavaskar has the true spirits of a player and is the right person who can justify the top post of India cricket.
