The selfie mania does not seem to die down anytime soon. We have seen some heartbreaking incidents of people losing lives while trying to click selfies, but there is hardly anyone who is paying heeds to these warnings. In yet another incident of selfie craze, three IndiGo pilots were grounded for a week for taking selfies in a cockpit while airborne, a rising phenomenon which distracts pilots and may endanger lives. But the irony is that they have been reprimanded for their action which they have committed approximately one and half years ago. Accordingto a source, this is not the only such case. Facebook and other social media profiles are full of pilots beaming in their seats while flying aircraft. Reports suggest that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officially warned some pilots of Indian carriers, and may soon issue guidelines prohibiting mid-air selfies in cockpits. It is to be noted that the American air safety regulator, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), has already banned commercial airline crews from using personal electronic devices (PEDs) for personal work by cockpit crews. Its time something like this is soon implemented in our country too in view of the safety of air borne passengers.
