Ponnam Prabhakar, Congress MP from Karimnagar who resigned as convener of the State MPs' Forum recently, came down heavily on Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. He alleged that the Vijayawada MP has grabbed many a Waqf land in Hyderabad. He also demanded that government should recover all the dues outstanding on Rajagopal's Lanco Power company immediately.
Ponnam demanded Rajagopal to declare that he doesn't have any waqf lands in his possession at Hyderabad. If it is so, he should give a clarification to the people saying he didn't grab any waqf land. Regarding Lagadapati owned Lanco Power plant at Kondapally near Vijayawada, Ponnam said that as per the terms, the plant ought to have been completed in 1998. But it started functioning two years later in 2000. Accordingly, Transco imposed a fine of 85 crores on Lanco Power. Mrs. Rachel Chaterji, then MD of Transco, somehow adjusted 45 crores from the year 2000 to 2005. Then onwards Rajagopal is avoiding payment of the balance amount on one pretext or the other by making use of his influence in the UPA government.
