National League for Democracy party lead by Aung San Suu Kyi wins in the recently held Myanmar Parliamentary elections and is going to form country’s first democratic government after 53 years. Elections results were coming out on Friday. Her NLD party wins total 348 seats out of 664 seats in both houses. Her party has won 21 seats addition to the magic figure of 329 seats to form the government.
The ruling Military Union solidarity and Development party bagged only 40 seats so far. However, it will get 25 seats each in lower and upper houses without contesting the elections, because of the amendments it made to Myanmar’s constitution some time ago. It also made some amendments to the constitution to prevent Aung San Suu Kyi from occupying the country’s top executive position- President of the country.
Hence, Suu Kyi has to claim it in some other way or create a post to enable herself to take the reins of the government. She made it clear that she will handle the government. The office of army commander Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing said that military will extend its full support to democratic government. She invited Hlaing, the outgoing President Thein Sein and the House Speaker Shwe Mann for a meeting on Friday.
