Minor irrigation minister, T.G. Venkatesh, is lobbying with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for certain benefits on the tax front for Rayalaseema Alkalies in Kurnool. Mr Venkatesh is the chairman and managing director of Rayalaseema Alkalies, which has a tax deferment of Rs 20 crore.
Sources told that the company made a representation to the Chief Minister to reduce the tax it owes, in view of the floods in Kurnool in 2009. It also asked that the Commercial Tax Departm-ent be directed not to resort to any coercive action till the government takes a decision on its request. It is interesting that the minister is using his political clout to get a favour from the Chief Minister after the company lost the case against the CTD in the High Court.
