The Spreme Court adjourned the bail plea of DMK supremo Karunanidhi's daughter and Rajya Sabha member Ms. Kanimozhi. Kanimozhi, named as a co-accused along with DMK's A Raja, in India's largest-ever swindle, the 2G scam, has been in Tihar Jail since May 20 when she was arrested by the CBI.
A vacation Bench of Justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar issued a notice to the CBI asking it to file its response on the bail plea by next Monday. The apex court inquired from the CBI on what happened to the Rs 200 crore, allegedly given to Kalaignar TV by Cineyug Films, and also asked the probe agency to state the loss incurred by the exchequer in granting licences to telecom companies during A Raja's tenure. The Delhi High Court had on June 8 rejected Kanimozhi's bail plea in the 2G spectrum case. Kanimozhi's lawyer had applied for bail in the court on the grounds that she needs to look after her young son, since her husband travels abroad frequently for work.
