Justice TS Thakur takes oath as CJI on Thursday

 

Justice TS Thakur takes oath as 43rd Chief Justice of India today as CJI HL Dattu retires yesterday. President Pranab Mukherjee administered his oath in Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Justice TS Thakur will serve as CJI till January 3, 2017.

 

Justice Teerth Singh Thakur begins his professional career a pleader in October 1972. Later, he practiced in J&K state high court, where he gained good knowledge in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional Service and Taxation matters. In 1990, he was given as senior advocate in the same court. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the state high court in 1994.

 

Later, he was transferred to Karnataka high court as Judge in the same year. He was transferred to Delhi high court in 2004. Later he served as Acting Chief justice of Delhi high court in 2008. He was elevated as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2008. Again, he was elevated as Supreme Court judge in 2009 and he becomes Chief Justice of India today.
