Former DGP of the undivided Andhra Pradesh state has come to media after a very long time to react on the phone tapping allegations made by the Andhra Pradesh government and its argument of implementing Section: 8 of the AP Reorganization Act that entrusts full powers to Governor in the common capital Hyderabad city.
He said, “It is true that ACB or Police officials shouldn’t tap the phones of Chief Minister and Ministers of neighboring state. But, they can tap the phones of individuals like Elvis Stephenson with the permission of Home Ministry. If, the AP government believes that its ministers’ phones were tapped, then the Chief Minister can complain to the Governor about the same and insist him to take appropriate action against the police commissioners for it. But, he has to provide strong evidences for his allegations.”
“The AP Police and ACB are allowed to run their forces from their head offices in the Hyderabad. But, they are not allowed to take any action against anyone in the common capital, because their jurisdiction permits them to deal with the problems related to the AP state and within the state limits but not in the common capital Hyderabad. So, if anyone including the AP Chief Minister feel any threat or insecurity, then it is Governor’s responsibility to ensure their safety and security,” said Dinesh Reddy.
