Former director of the apex investigating agency in India, CBI, US Mishra said that he faced pressure from some quarters while he was in office. He served the CBI as its chief between 2003 and 2005.
He said that independence should be given to the CBI in some cases as the CBI is completely controlled by the union government. Speaking to a news channel today, he said that he faced pressure while probing the disproportionate assets case of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati. He also said that the same is the case while doing the investigation against Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son.
Reacting to the words of Mishra, the Minister Of State in Prime Minister’s Office Narayasamy said that the organization is an independent one there are no pressures on it from the government.
Ruling out the pressure on CBI, another minster Ashwani Kumar reminded that Mishra was in the post during the NDA rule and so the BJP should respond to the allegations of the IPS officer.
Commenting on the issue, the senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said that the views of another CBI director Joginder Singh were also the same. He said that CBI was being converted into Congress Bureau of Investigation. He said that the men in power were using it to harass their political opponents.
