HYDERABAD: Until now, our country had one Soldier Welfare Fund only which had been started in the year 1949 and which was known as Flag Day Fund. This was the first time that the government was seeking additional funds to support Martyrs’ families, a Defense Ministry official said adding that, they initiated the scheme two months ago in the name of Army Welfare Fund for Battle casualty. The official also said, “The account with Syndicate Bank will be linked with the Income Tax department for the provision of rebate to the donors under Income Tax Act section 80G”. The Flag Day Fund was meant for the ex-servicemen’s welfare, their families and also that of Martyrs. The money was used to pay the school fees of soldiers’ children and for the accommodation of former servicemen, he added.
