On Friday last, the Delhi government had blamed the spread of chikunguniya infection in the National Capital on officers hesitant to work. The Supreme Court slammed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain for not filing an affidavit revealing the names of officers the AAP government claims are hesitant to work to contain the spread of chikunguniya and dengue infection in the National Capital. Delhi government lawyers defended the courts order of fine on the minister, by claiming that they had time of 24 hours to file the affidavid. The court, however said that since people are dying every hour, more time could not be provided. "You have made a serious allegation in your affidavit. Who are the officials disobeying you? People in Delhi are suffering from dengue and chikungunya. You cannot treat them like this. Give the names and evidences of the officials who have been disobeying by Monday. It is a serious matter," the bench said."When you make tall claims you must back it up with action," the supreme court told solicitor general of the AAP government, Ranjit Kumar. The court will hear the matter on Tuesday, when the AAP government is expected to file a detailed report.
