Banaras is the holy destination for crores of Hindus and also one of the biggest business destinations in the India. Every year lakhs of pilgrims visit this holy city and thousands out of them won’t return home as they want to spend their last days in this holy city. As a result there is very unhygienic conditions prevails everywhere in this holy city and being the most ancient city it is very congested and suffering with poor civic amenities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was elected to Parliament, owed the people of the city that he will improve the conditions after taking charge of the government. But, he seems want to offer more than what people expected from him. His government has selected Banaras for converting into smart city as a part of ambitious project of developing 100 smart cities across the country. For this purpose, he signed a pact with Japan government in his ongoing visit.
He preferred Kyoto city, which is also a very ancient city in Japan but later converted into smart city. Modi wants to apply the same yard stick to convert Banaras into smart city. However, no one has idea when will be the works start and how many years it will take to convert Banaras into a smart city.
