MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi demanded that the assailants of Akbaruddin Owaisi be tried in a special court. Addressing a media conference at the party headquarters Darus Salaam, Asadduddin said, "Do not perceive MIM as a weak party. If we do not control the situation, Hyderabad could turn into a faction-ridden region like Rayalaseema. But we will chase away anti-social elements." He asked the government to expedite the investigation into the last Saturday's attack on his younger brother and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi at Chandrayangutta.
Senior Owaisi also assailed the role of police and said that the sub-inspector who was present on the scene of offence did nothing to control the situation. "If this is what happens when a public representative is attacked, what would you expect of the police when common man faces trouble." he sought to know. He told the media that he had declined security offered by police commissioner A K Khan saying "I don't need any security, give it to those who need it."
Asaduddin singled out two Urdu dailies, Siasat and Munsif, accusing them of "promoting undesirable forces involved in land grabbing." The media should remain objective and not take sides, he added. Editor of Siasat, Zahed Ali Khan and Editor-in-Chief of Munsif, Khan Lateef Khan declined to comment on the charges levelled by the MP and said that since the investigation into the attack on Akbaruddin is underway, it would not be proper to say anything at this juncture.
