19L affected in Assam floods;Kaziranga submerged

Floods continue play havoc in the state of Assam as more than 19 lakh people were stranded and were affected because of heavy rainfall. Home Minister Rajnath Singh to make an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Nagaon, Morigaon and Kaziranga in Assam. He will also be visiting Bhagatgaon camp to meet flood-affected residents in Morigaon district. The minister will also hold a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other state government officers in Guwahati before returning to Delhi in the evening. Over 19 lakh people in 23 districts have been affected by the current wave of floods, of whom about 2.25 lakh have taken shelter in nearly 600 relief camps set up by the authorities. The death toll has touched 25.
The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Guwahati, Nematighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Goalpara and Dhubri towns. Meanwhile, eight rhino cubs displaced and separated from their mothers were rescued by Kaziranga National Park and Centre of Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) team. The calves were separated during the floods from the mighty Brahmaputra that submerged over 90 per cent of the World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) authority said.
