As the second phase of odd-even vehicle policy was getting implemented in Delhi, here are a few highlights that are worth reading.
- The The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has today declared that the pollution has come down drastically due to odd-even policy. The DPCC has stationed mobile vans at various locations in the city to note the micro particles in the air. It was thus concluded that 42 out of 74 locations in the city has shown improved air quality.
- Even as the pollution levels were said to have come down, Delhites weren’t relived from traffic woes. Many reasons were cited for the continual traffic. Lack of additional buses and heat waves seem to be letting Delhites to choose private vehicles other than public transport.
- Private Cab services such as Uber and Ola have tried to exploit the situation by surging their fares, but had to scrap the decision after a backlash from the citizens and warnings from the government. Earlier they have tried to pitch the cab fare from 3 to 5 times than normal.
- This second phase of odd-even policy was started on April 15 and would remain in force till the end of the month. Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has stated that their government would go for a public opinion before deciding the next phase of the policy. If the public seem to be in favour of this policy, the odd-even scheme might be implemented for every 15 days in a month.
