· Chief Election Commissioner Sri V S Sampath says Model Code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect.
· General election to be held in nine phases on April 7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 24, 30, May 7 and 12; Counting will happen on May 16 and results also will be announced the same day.
· 9 polls days will cover 543 constituencies and respective Assembly constituencies across India
· Total of nine lakh 30 thousand polling stations,
· Another opportunity will be given for voters to enroll before elections.
· On March 9, Sunday, voters can get themselves enrolled across country. On this day ficers will verify electoral rolls and allow applications.
· The total Indian electorate is 814 million, 10 crores more than the last Parliament election.
· EC says 16th Lok Sabha has to be in place before May 31 2014
· From the coming elections, candidates in a parliamentary constituency in bigger states can spend up to Rs 70 lakh on their campaign, up from Rs 40 lakh in 2011. In the 2009 elections, it was Rs 25 lakh.
· It could be the first time the country witnesses elections over such a long period in six or seven phases.
· For the first time in parliamentary polls, a system of paper trail for electronic voting will be introduced in some constituencies on a trial basis.
· Along with the Lok Sabha elections, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will go to polls to elect new assemblies
· The term of the current Lok Sabha expires on June 1 and the new House has to be constituted by May 31. Andhra Pradesh Assembly term will end on June-2
How is it going to be conducted In Andhra Pradesh?
· Andhra Pradesh will go for elections as one state with 2 poll dates
· 30th April 2014 and 7th May
· 30th April 2014 the Region of Telanagana goes to Vote
· 7th May 2014 the Region of Seemandhara goes to vote
· Both Assembly and Parliamentary elections to be conducted simultaneously on these days
· No of seats in Seemandhra- 175 Assembly seats and 25 Parliamentary seats
· No of seats in Telanagana - 119 Assembly seats and 17 Parliamentary Seats
· Nomination for Seemandhra phase starts from April 19th, 21st April scrutiny and ends on 23rd April 2014.
· Nominations for the State of Telanagana date is 9th April phase, scrutiny on 10th and ends on 12th April 2014.
Once the state comes into formation the Assembly and MP seats will be determined as per law and as to what seats come into the bifurcated states.
