The Election Commission of Andhra Pradesh has issued notice to Congress MP Chiranjeevi for making religious statements at Tirupathi on 11 May. Addressing public during the bypolls campaign in Tirupathi constituency, Chiranjeevi is said to have asked the people to vote for Congress, if they wish to protect the sanctity of Tirumala Tirupathi. He also is alleged to have said that by voting for YSR Congress Party or Jagan Mohan Reddy, the holiness of Tirupathi will be lost.
The YSRCP strongly objected to the religious statements made by Chiranjeevi and complained to the Election Commission. Basing on the complaint, the EC has issued notice to Chiranjeevi and asked him to explain by noon on Sunday.
