News that the social activist Anna Hazare is going to appear before the Parliamentary Standing Committee to give his inputs on the Lokpal bill has been welcomed by the Congress Party.
Terming it a right move, the party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said "That Anna Hazare is coming before the Standing Committee is the right move. There are people from all parties in the Standing Committee. Issues are not resolved by sitting on demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. Laws are made in Parliament not at Jantar Mantar." If Hazare feels that Parliament cannot make the law they want, they should try to enter Parliament and then make the law they want instead of adopting any 'unconstitutional method'," Alvi said.
Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that the government has kept the channels of communication through the Committee. He said the civil society is large body and different sections of civil society keep sending their opinions to the government. Khurshid was one in the 10-member committee to draft the Lokpal bill, which has now gone the Standing Committee on Personnel and Law Justice. Team Hazare on Wednesday told the panel to recommend to the government to withdraw the lokpal Bill and come out with a fresh measure which deals with problem of corruption faced by the common man.
