AP gets NIT with 300 seats share

The meeting between Andhra Pradesh state and Union HRD Ministers held today at New Delhi brings great news for the students of the state. Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has agreed to set up National Institute of Technology in the West Godavari district in the state.
Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao briefing the media said “NIT will be set up with total 480 seats strength out of which 300 seats including 60 supernumerary seats will be allotted to students of our state. Minister Smriti Irani has also agreed for commencement of courses from this academic year itself from a temporary campus as it may take a couple of years for constructing permanent campus. She promised to speed up the process for setting up Central University and Tribal University in the state.
Minister Smriti Irani has laid foundation stones for three premium institutions-IIT, IIIT and IISER on 28th March in Chittoor district. IIT Tirupati will be set up at Meralapaka village in Yerpedu mandal near Tirupati in Chittoor district, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Sri City, Satyavedu mandal and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Tirupati.
Earlier, in January 2015 she laid foundation stone for IITV (Indian Institute of Technology-Visakhapatnam) at Visakhapatnam. All these premium institutes will start functioning from temporary campuses from this academic year itself until permanent buildings are constructed within next couple of years. Centre will provide 100 percent funding for setting up these premium institutions and the state government has to provide sufficient lands for them.
With this the Modi government has granted five premeum educational institutions to the Andhra Pradesh state within one year, which is a remarkable acheivment.
