Singapore Airlines (SIA) has banned all passengers on their flights from carrying on board and checking in Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Following suit AirAsia will also not allow Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile phones onboard any of its flights, including its flights in India, from midnight October 17 due to safety concerns. The U.S. Department of Transportation issued an emergency order on Friday banning Samsung's recalled Galaxy Note 7 device from air travel in the U.S. phones cannot be taken in on passengers' person, in carry-on baggage, as air cargo or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States, the Transportation Department said in a statement. More than 1 million of the phones have been recalled in the U.S. after reports of batteries overheating and catching fire. Budget carriers AirAsia, Scoot and Tigerair said passengers in possession of the device – even if it is in their check-in luggage – will be denied boarding, the airlines said in their respective statements.
