108 Ambulance Service: GVK Contract May be Terminated

According to reliable sources, the government is considering termination of the three-year contract with GVK-108 ambulance services for "highly unsatisfactory performance" and is likely to place the entire emergency service under Arogyasri Trust.
The source said that even though the contract with GVK was renewed after much hesitation, the delivery of service has not improved in the last three months.
"Just 542 ambulances are on the road out of 802. They keep demanding funds every few days and despite providing them with full expenditure, they can't run the ambulances due to lack of money to purchase diesel. Some diversion of government funds can't also be ruled out. Considering the lacunae in their performance, the contract with GVK may be terminated and the entire service can be run much better by placing it under Arogyasri Trust," the source said.
