Tirumala tirupati hundi: Tirupati Hundi collections on Sunday at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateshwara on Tirumala crossed a record-breaking Rs 5.73 crore, thanks to the whopping contribution of about Rs 2 crore by a devotee from Delhi. The temple collected Rs 5,73,02,000 at the hundi in Srivari temple, surpassing the previous highest record of Rs 4.23 cr collected on Jan 1, 2012.
The highest hundi collection on a single day last summer was Rs 3.89 crores and according to temple sources, there have been about four occasions in the past when the Srivari Hundi collections crossed the Rs 3 cr mark.
Though it was Sri Ramanavami on Sunday, the pilgrim rush at the temple was less than the average on a regular Sunday and was much below the rush on New Year’s Day. The number of pilgrims recorded as of 7 p.m. was around 70,000, which is about 10 to 12 percent less than the normal Sunday rush. The officials are expecting a surge in pilgrims, once the SSC exams get over by mid-April.
