Tendulkar’s nomination to Rajya Sabha proper

Delhi high court has dismissed a plea challenging the nomination of the cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to the upper house of the Parliament. A petition was filed by a former MLA of Delhi, Ram Gopal Singh Sisodia, challenging the nomination of the ace cricketer.

Sisodia, in his petition, told the court that Tendulkar did not possess ‘special knowledge and practical experience’ required for the nomination. On its part, the central government has said that the nomination was done as per the constitutional provision.

The government has informed the court that the eminent persons in the fields of sports, education, law, history, academics, economics, journalism, parliamentary practice, public administration, agriculture, etc. can also be nominated to the house along with those in literature, science, arts and social service. Sachin Tendulkar was nominated to Rajya Sabha by the government on 26 April this year.
