Microsoft to set-up local data centers in India

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during his visit to India has announced that his company is planning to set-up data centers in three cities in the country to provide cloud services to private and government organizations. He said this is first time Microsoft is offering cloud computing services through local data centers.

He foresees a trillion dollar business in this cloud computing services in India alone because of the vast size of the market. Currently, Microsoft is operating 10-100 data centers across the globe. Microsoft is offering cloud services with its Azure and Office 365 for use of individuals and enterprises. Evidently, it will increase the number of data centers in the country in future depending on the market demand.

If, these three data centers are to cover entire country, then they have to be set-up one in South India and two in North India. If so, Andhra and Telangana states also can join the race for local data center. Since these data centers have to cater the needs of entire country, they may proportionately provide direct and indirect employment to thousands of people. This picture may come clear once the government and Microsoft sign the MoU for setting-up data centers in the country.
