Delhi: Fog delays 81 trains;several flights

Dense fog in the national capital led to more than 140 flights being delayed and seven cancelled today as poor runway visibility in the morning disrupted operations at IGI airport. While 81 trains were running late, 13 trains — which were scheduled to run on Saturday and Sunday — were cancelled. As many as 40 trains had been rescheduled due to the fog. Several important and prestigious trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, Sampark Kranti, Purusottam, Utkal, Nandankanan, Hirakud Express have been badly affected and their scheduled have gone haywires, an ECoR release said on Friday.This is the third consecutive day that dense fog in many parts of northern India caused major air and rail traffic issues. More than 140 flights were delayed and seven cancelled on Friday as poor runway visibility in the morning disrupted operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here, officials said. With around 1,100 flight movements per day, IGI airport is the busiest aerodrome in the country.
