Court clears way for Zanjeer and Thoofan release

The dispute between producer Amit Mehra and his two brothers Sumeet and Punit over the remake rights of films Zanjeer and Thoofan was finally solved and the Bombay High Court has lifted the stay order on the release of the two films issued by the single judge bench of the same court. Actually, the original version of this film Zanjeer was produced by their father Prakash Mehra in 1973 under Prakash Mehra Productions banner. His elder son Amit Mehra’s Adai Mehra productions Pvt Ltd has purchased the remake rights from PMP and made Zanjeer and Thoofan films in Hindi and Telugu simultaneously. However, when Amit failed to pay the dues, both his brothers have filed a petition against Amit and got a stay order on the release. Besides, story writers of the original film Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar also demand Rs.6 crores royalty for using the intellectual rights. Hence, they also filed a petition in the same court. The High Court gave clearance after the producer Amit Mehra has agreed to clear the dues within 8 weeks to his brothers and the writers. Mega power star Ram Charan Tej is debuting with Zanjeer into Bollywood. Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra has played female lead opposite him in this movie. Sri Hari, Prakash Raj, Sanjay Dutt and some others have played key roles in this movie. This film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Amit Mehra under Adai Mehra productions Pvt Ltd banner.
