35% of our vegetables are from foreign land

In a shocking revelation of a study, it has come out to light that of all the food grains, vegetables and fruits grown and eaten in India, about a third originally came from some foreign land. A study of 177 countries by scientists has found that in India, more than a third of all food items derived from plants, grains, vegetables, fruits, spices, oils, sugar and many such food has originated and developed elsewhere. These include potatoes and tomatoes from the Andean region in South America, onions from West Asia, chillies from Central America, mustard seed from the Mediterranean region, garlic and apples from Central Asia.
