SC transfers Yakub’s stay petition to another bench

Supreme Court bench comprising Justice AR Dhave and Justice Kuriyan Joseph has transfered the petition filed by Yakub Memon’s wife to another bench of the same court on Tuesday as there was difference of opinion between Justice Dave and Justice Kuriyan over granting stay on Yakub’s death sentence. While, Justice Dhave is averse to grant stay, Justice Kuriyan opposes implementing death sentence. Hence, they transferred the petition to another bench of the same court to take a decision.

Yakub Memon will be hanged on July 30th, in case if the Supreme Court bench rejects his wife’s petition for stay or conversion of death sentence into life imprisonment. Yakub Memon and his family members are in highly tense condition as the time was running out. Supreme Court is likely to announce its decision on Wednesday
