Veteran actress Manorama passes away

 

Veteran Tamil actress Manorama (78) died with heart attack and multiple organs failure at Chennai Apollo Hospital on Saturday night. She was ailing with severe health problems since last one year.

 

Her real name is Gopishantha. She born at Mannargudi in Tanjavur district in Tamilnadu on May 26, 1937. She fall in love with drama troop manager SM Ramanathan and married him in 1964. But they were separated after two years because of disputes. Their son Bhupathi is currently acting in films and is also a play back singer.

 

Manorama joined the film industry as child actress at the age of 12 and did more than 1200 films in her five decades association with film industry. She was a very popular stage actress also. She played more than 1000 stage shows and several TV serials also. She also sang songs for many Tamil films. Her name was entered into Gunnies Book of World Records for doing highest number of films in her life time.

 

She also acted in Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films. She acted in Telugu films Subhodayam, Rikshavodu, Baava nachchedu, ninnu Choodaka Nenudalenu, Krishnarjunalu and super hit movie Arundhati.

 

She was honored with Padma Sri Award, National Award, prestigious Kalaimamani award, Film Fare Life time achievement award and many others for her excellence in acting. She joined film industry in 1958 with Tamil film Malayaitti Mangai and did her last film Singam-2 in 2013. Entire southern film industry is mourning her death. Her funerals will be conducted today afternoon at Chennai.
