Fresh trouble over levying T-Tax on AP vehicles

Apart from the problems emerging out of bifurcation of the state, some decisions being taken by Telangana government is igniting sparks between two states. The latest controversy is levying Telangana tax on Andhra Vehicles. Actually, while the state was under President’s Rule, governor Narasimhan has issued orders for continuation of the existing tax till March 31st next year and no fresh taxes should be levied on the vehicles entering into either AP or Telangana states.

However, Telangana government amending the GO has issued fresh orders levying T-Tax on AP vehicles with immediate effect. Hence, the private bus travel agencies, material transport vehicles, mini passenger vehicles including auto rikshaws of Andhra Pradesh entering into Telangana state have to pay T-Tax from now onwards. Obviously, it will further hike the transport cost and people of both states have to bear this extra burden. Hence, AP transport associations are planning to challenge the T government’s decision in the high court.

However, Telangana state transport commissioner Jagadeshwar said that it is just a clarification to the existing GO and not any new GO. Since, AP and Telangana states were separated and become independent states, Telangana government is applying the same thumb rule to AP Vehicles entering the state.
