Gradually, YSR Congress party is toughening its stand on Samaikyandhra and is now openly opposing Telangana state formation. YSRCP honorary president Vijayamma is going to sit for an indefinite hunger strike from 19th of August at Vijayawada protesting bifurcation of the state.
Perhaps, it makes no difference for YSRCP as it has decided to confine itself to Seemandhra region, but the TDP leaders’ agitations and protests definitely will have their impact on the party in Telangana region.
Congress is also playing a safe game at both regions. Even though, it’s Seemandhra leaders are agitating against bifurcation, the firm stand taken by the high command in favour of bifurcation, keeps it up above all its rivals TRS, TDP, BJP and other parties in Telangana region. Moreover it can bank upon the credit of granting Telangana state to seek the votes in Telangana region. At the same time, its leaders can boast themselves as the war heroes, who have sacrificed their Minister, MP and MLA posts just for the sake of Samaikyandhra and the people’s interests to seek votes in Seemandhra region.
But, TDP seems to be dragged into this trap laid by Congress and YSR Congress parties. As the TDP leaders intensify their agitations and protests in favour of Samaikyandhra, it will be the looser at the other end -Telangana region. Once, TDP is fully absorbed into this trap, and then Congress and YSRCP may swiftly withdraw from the game leaving TDP struck in the trap.
While Congress gains political mileage in both places, YSRCP will be happy to settle with Seemandhra region, where as TDP may lose the game in both regions. Although, Chandrababu could foresee these developments, perhaps he is not in a position to control his leaders so is the situation also.
