Sex offenders registry in India

In what is seem to be a revolutionary initiative by the government, it has decided to set up a registry of Sex offenders across the nation. The idea of a registry for sex offenders is not new to the world. It was being successfully implemented in countries such as UK and US. This registry would be put up on the website of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in India. The data base would include every minute detail of a person who was convicted under a sexual offence.

Details such as the name of offender, his nick names, voter id, Aadhar no, profession... along with the place of his temporary stay would all be updated in the registry. The idea of maintaining such a register was proposed by the UPA government in 2012 after the Nirbhaya incident and was being pursued by the present government. This registry according to the government sources would not only let the police and public to be watchful about such culprits but would also warn the culprits that they are being watched continuously.
