Nadendla objects confining metro to Vijayawada

Former Speaker Nadendla Manohar objected the decision of E. Sreedharan, the chief advisor of AP Metro Rail Projects to confine the metro project to Vijayawada city only. Referring the AP Reorganization Bill-2014 he said “The 12th proposal of 13th Schedule of this bill promises metro linkage between Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri cities with Vijayawada. Metro project was proposed in the bill keeping in view for developing all the four cities in VGTM area. However, it is unfortunate to know state government has simply agreed to Sreedharan’s proposal without raising an eye-brow. I appeal the state government to reconsider its decision on confining metro project to Vijayawada city only and extend to VGTM area.”

Sreedharan has suggested the government to confine it to Vijayawada city only because metro rails are not designed to connect the cities but a mode of city transport. Moreover, metro project is also not viable. He said it will cost government approximately Rs.400 crores for each kilometer of metro project. So, state government also agreed to his suggestions.
