220 pilgrims died in stampede in Mecca

 

More than 220 pilgrims were killed and around 400 were injured in a stampede taken place at the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mina, on the out skirts of holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.The civil defense directorate of the country confirmed this report. According to Al Jazeera news reports from spot, this incident takes place in the streets between pilgrim camps.

 

According to reports around 20 lakh pilgrims have reached Mecca to attend the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Out of them 1.5 lakh people are from India. Saudi officials are trying to identify the deceased and wounded. Recently, 107 people were killed and around 200 persons were injured when a heavy crane collapsed on a building near by the holy Mecca mosque. The care takers of Mecca have made elaborate arrangements to prevent tragic incidents like this but unfortunately two incidents happened in one month.
