No proposals for special status under consideration?

Union Minister Inderjit Singh’s reply to a question asked by member of Lok Sabha today leaves the MPs of Andhra Pradesh state confused as they have been assured by the Centre for granting special status to the AP state.

Inderjit Singh replied, “Currently, there is no scope for granting special status to any state in the country. Currently, there are no proposals under our consideration for granting special status to any state in the country.”

“It is not true that Bihar state was granted special category status. Some financial package has been announced for it only. Centre is giving 42 per cent of its revenue to the states following the recommendations of the Finance Commission,” said Minister Inderjit Singh.

If so, opposition parties in the AP state may make collective attacks on the ruling TDP and BJP governments. They may certainly grab this chance offered by union minister Inderjit Singh and intensify their fight for the special status to the AP state. YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy has already declared that he will stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 10th demanding special status to the AP state. So, now he may enough grounds to strongly criticize the ruling TDP and BJP.
