Jayalalitha’s case to be reopened

Tamilnadu CM Jayalalitha, who is contesting in the bye-polls from Ramakrishnapuram constituency in Chennai, has started election campaigning from yesterday. She is contesting in the bye-elections as it is mandatory to become a legislative member within six months of assuming charge as CM of the state. While, she is preparing grounds for re-election, Karnataka state government gave a shocker to her.

It filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict acquitting her in the disproportionate assets case. It filed a petition through its advocate Joseph Aristotle appealing to set aside the Karnataka high Court’s verdict and to disqualify Tamilnadu CM Jayalalitha. The apex court accepts its application for trial. Hence, Jayalalitha should prepare for another legal battle in the apex court over the same case that she faced for nearly last two decades in the state level. Indeed, it would be a negative development for her in the prevailing favorable situation.
