BJP-PDP to form government in J&K

At last, the BJP and PDP are able to strike a deal over forming alliance government in the Jammu and Kashmir State. BJP president Amit Shah and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti made a joint press statement confirming alliance between the two parties. The agreement made between two parties will be made public after holding a final meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mehbooba Mufti. However, both parties have formally agreed to form an alliance government in the state.

Mehbooba Mufti may take oath as Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh as Deputy Chief Minister of the state on 1st March. Six ministers from each party are also likely to take oath along with them. According to available information, both parties have agreed to maintain status-co on all the issues- holding talks with Kashmiri separatists, Pakistan, withdrawing special powers to the armed forces in the Kashmir valley and Article 370 etc. on which they are differing with each other. BJP ministers may limit themselves to the Jammu area while PDP ministers may confine themselves to Kashmir valley to prevent any friction between two parties.
