Two months over! Yet government not formed in J&K State

Jammu & Kashmir State Assembly elections verdict was declared on December 23rd, 2014. Yet, so far government was not formed in the state due to the stalemate in talks between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP. Hence, the state was put under governor’s ruling since last two months. PDP won 28 and the BJP 25 seats out of the 87 member Assembly. The magic figure to form the government is 44. hence, neitehr of them are able to form the government on their own.

The talks between the two parties are continuing since last two months but there could not come to any consensus on four issues. 1. Withdrawing Article 370 to the state. 2. Partial withdrawal of special powers accorded to Armed Forces in the Valley. 3. Holding talks with J&K separatist leaders. 4. The settlement of west Pakistan refugees. Both parties have agreed on how to share the power between the two parties, but are not willing to change their stand on these four issues.

PDP leaders are planning to negotiate with the BJP high command at New Delhi over these four issues. If, they could find an amicable solution to these four issues, they may make an official announcement about their readiness to form the government. If, they form the government, PDP Cheif Mehabooba Mufti Sayyeed will become Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Post will goes to BJP leader from Jammu region.
