TN tense as Jayalalithaa suffers cardiac arrest

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is on assisted breathing at Chennai's Apollo hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday. The Apollo Hospital in Chennai, where Jayalalithaa is being treated, said in a press release that after suffering the cardiac arrest, she was in a critical condition. Jayalalithaa has been in hospital since September 22 when her condition deteriorated suddenly. Sixty eight-year-old Jayalalithaa has been put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a heart assist device, and was under the watch of experts, including cardiologists. Following the development, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who is also the Governor of Maharashtra, airdashed to the city from Mumbai and visited Apollo Hospitals on Sunday night. However, contrary to expectations that he would address the press, he just folded his hands and left the hospital premises without saying a word on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health.
