Italian Middleman Ottavio Katrochi died

 

Italian middleman Ottavio Katrochi, who was accused in Bofors deal, was died with heart attack at Milan, Italy two days ago. Katrochi, accused of managing the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for approval of Bofors deal. Rajiv was reportedly received Rs.80 crores as kickbacks in this deal. Katrochi has stayed in India until a case was filed against him in year 1993, but flees away from the country, when CBI plans for his arrest. CBI has filed a case and issued a Red Corner notice for him. Katrochi has managed to escape twice at Malaysia and Argentina. When, CBI fails to nab him even after two decades of efforts, the Delhi court has closed the cases pending against him in year 2011.

 

All the accused in Bofors deal-Rajiv Gandhi (Former Prime Minister), SK Bhatnagar (Former Defense Secretary), Martin Ordbo (Bofors Chairman), Vin Chaddah (Agent) and now Katrochi were died. The lone survivors in this case Hindujas were freed from this case in year 2009 by the court. Hence, the Bofors case was closed without bringing anyone to book, even after spending crores of rupees on investigation and legal proceedings.
